Where Will You Find Truth?
"I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth." - 3 John 1:4
Truth is that which matches universal reality. Not your personal reality, but universal reality as described using a shared and common understanding of the language used to communicate truth. Your personal beliefs have no impact on truth.
While truth is the same for everyone, opinion can vary from person to person. Here is an example - TRUTH: this is cholcalate ice cream. OPINION: this chocolate ice cream is good. Opinion is a personal reality and is subject to change.
At times there are some things we do not fully understand (eg. how disease is spread), but think we do. So we formulate "truths" about them. As we gain knowledge we may learn that we did not have truth, and replace it with truth. But, the truth did not change, we did.
A promise is truth when that promise is given by someone who has the ability and will to keep that promise. This is humanly impossible. For example, the person who made the promise may die before fulfilling the promise. Only God can always keep a promise.
The Most Important Truths
How can Jesus not be Jesus?
Many churches and individuals believe in a Jesus who only lives in their imaginations. Jesus Christ, the creator God of the universe, is clearly descibed in the Bible. For example, if you believe you must be baptized, or go to church, or do good deeds to be saved, that is not the Jesus described in the Bible (Ephesians 2:8-9). If someone's description of Jesus does not match scripture, they have an imaginary Jesus.
God is forgiving.
Yes, God forgives, but God is also just. There is justice. If you do the crime, you must pay the time... except God has done the time for you. If you accept this gracious gift, justice has been served, and God can then forgive you. The penalty you've earned for disobeying God has been paid in full.
Love means there is justice.
Yes, God loves you. He loves you so much that He died on the cross in your place. But if you choose to be separated from God... if you do not believe in Jesus (God) or you have an imaginary Jesus, or do not believe He died in your place, then God will leave you to be saved by your god. A god who does not exist and can do nothing to save you. You send yourself to hell.
God has promised you many things. And He has both the ability and will to fulfill His promises. You can trust His promises. Here are just three of them:
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. - 2 Corintians 5:17
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden [with the effort of trying to saved yourself], and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30
